“Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish.” – 2 Peter 3:14

The last month of the year is filled with anticipation and expectation. We know that Christmas day will arrive on schedule on December 25th and that it will mean the celebration of the birth of Jesus. We anticipate getting and giving presents; we expect lots of good meals along the way; we hope for great deals at the stores and we wish we had more time to spend with those we love.

This is also one of the busiest times of the year. It seems like we are running from one activity to the next, from one Christmas party to another, and from lunch or dinner to yet another family gathering in an endless cycle of busyness. It is easy to forget that Christmas is really about Jesus and that what we celebrate is the coming of the Son of God into the world to bring us salvation and light.

If you are still reading, it means you have taken some time out of all the busyness to ponder these thoughts. Take a breath. Jesus is coming. The countdown to His return continues to tick away. Are you paying attention? Are you ready? If Jesus came this Christmas would He find you sharing faith or just stuff? Would your treasures be stored in heaven or would you be building bigger barns? Would you be freeing the captives and visiting those in prison or would you be too busy to notice them?

One of the most challenging things for us is simply slowing down long enough to take in the true meaning of Christmas, to ponder the baby born in a manger that would change everything. Breathe. Since you started reading, His appearing has drawn closer.

Are you ready? Are you paying attention? Are you living as if the time for His return is near? Celebrate Christmas but don’t forget Christ is coming soon!
